Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg today unveiled a massive investment plan into the company’s Superintelligence Labs, signaling a bold pivot toward leading the AI arms race. In a post on Threads, Zuckerberg confirmed Meta will dedicate hundreds of billions of dollars to build “titan AI data centers” over the next decade, including the Prometheus facility scheduled to go online in 2026 and the larger-scale Hyperion campus – capable of scaling to 5 gigawatts in future phases .

Zuckerberg emphasised that each center will occupy a footprint “comparable to a large part of Manhattan,” underscoring its ambition to match competitors like OpenAI and Google. The Superintelligence Labs division, led by Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman, was reorganised after Meta faced setbacks with the Llama 4 model and the departure of high-profile talent. Despite these challenges, the company leverages a robust advertising revenue base approximately $165 bn in 2024 – to justify the increased capex plan, with total budget allocations now expected to reach $64–$72 bn this year.
