Nothing Headphone 1 Launched – Is It Worth the Hype?

Nothing Headphone 1 Launched

London-based tech darling Nothing has finally pulled the wraps off its first over-ear cans, the Headphone (1). Priced at $299/£299/€299, pre-orders open 4 July with global sales beginning 15 July 2025, positioning the newcomer squarely against Sony’s WH-1000XM5 and Apple’s AirPods Max – but at roughly half Apple’s price.

True to the brand’s DNA, Headphone (1) embraces a transparent housing and aluminum frame, revealing the tech inside while keeping weight to 329 g. Audio is tuned in partnership with British hi-fi icon KEF and delivered through custom 40 mm dynamic drivers capable of 20 Hz–40 kHz response, backed by adaptive ANC rated at 42 dB and real-time spatial audio. Instead of fussy touchpads, Nothing opts for a satisfying volume roller, paddle switch, and a programmable shortcut button—controls that early testers say feel refreshingly tactile.

Battery life is another headline stat: up to 80 hours with ANC off or 35 hours with it engaged, plus 2.4 hours of play from a five-minute USB-C quick charge. Unsurprisingly, Google Trends shows “Nothing Headphone 1” surging into the day’s top tech search terms, underscoring genuine consumer curiosity rather than manufactured buzz.

But is the excitement justified? Initial reviews applaud the build, smart app with eight-band EQ, and class-leading battery, yet some critics find the sound slightly compressed and the fit a bit hefty for marathon sessions. In short, Headphone (1) offers distinctive style, standout endurance, and a feature sheet that belies its price. Audiophiles chasing ultimate fidelity may still lean toward Sony or Sennheiser, but anyone craving a conversation-starting design and solid all-round performance will likely deem Nothing’s debut worth the hype.
